I've just finished one of my two weeks of work experience. I'm working at a Catholic Communications place and at the moment they're mostly doing newspapers and advertising, but they also do websites and other projects to help parishes and organisations communicate with each other.
It's been a good experience. On the first two days I didn't really do much and then I had Wednesday off because of the world cup. On Thursday and Friday I was given the task of phoning priests to ask if they could recommend any companies who might want to advertise in the diocesan newspaper. Now, I have a massive phobia of using the telephone, and I will always try and get someone else to phone people for me, so this was quite a big challenge for me. I think I've done quite well so far and I'm getting more confident using the phone already. I was given a big long list of around 100 parishes to phone and I think I've done about half of them. It's certainly helped me a lot.
Also, I showed my employer my website and magazine and he's very interested in helping me getting it published and distributed. It would need to have adverts to help cover the costs. We haven't worked anything much out yet, but I've always dreamed of one day getting the magazine printed up into a hard copy, so this is quite exciting for me!
